Energy drinks

 Hello to all our followers!!
Finally we have managed to make our first post in which we are going to look at the different side effects of energy drinks.
Our first topic is ENERGY DRINKS.

First we wanted to let you all know what energy drinks actually consist.

Caffeine

It is the main substance of energy drinks which "keeps you going". However there are some major side effects which has to notified. Here are some examples of the side effects:
  • Dizziness, irritability, nausea, nervousness, jitters.
  • Allergic reactions can include; rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the (mouth, face, lips, or tongue),diarrhea, shakiness, trouble sleeping, vomiting.
  • Headache and severe fatigue from withdrawal.

Taurine
Taurine is also important for people as it is found in the heart, the skeletal muscles, white blood cells, and the nervous system. So far it doesn't seem to have any side effects in energy drinks.

B-Vitamin

B Vitamin is essential for our life but in certain amounts can cause serious effects:
  • More than 35mg of Thiamine (B3) can cause flushing of the skin. Intake of 3000mg or more can result in liver toxicity.
  • More than 100mg of B6 can cause sensory nerve problems (burning sensation) or skin lesions.

Ginseng

  • Some studies have linked it to sleeplessness, while others refute this.
  • Other possible symptoms include; nausea, diarrhea, headaches, nose bleed, high blood pressure, low blood pressure, and breast pain.
Glucuronolactone

While no side effects have been reported there’s still debate on its safety which has lead Canada, England, Germany, and France from allowing it in non-prescription products.

Artificial sweeteners

Artificial sweeteners are very popular today but there are on-going debates about the pros and cons about that. Generally, natural sweeteners, like brown sugar, are the best.

  • nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headaches, dizziness, heart palpitations, and restlessness.
  • Can interact with other medication such as blood thinners and anti-depressants.
    Mixing

Mixing energy drinks with different substances has become highly popular for young people. For example mixing energy drinks with vodka can be highly dangerous to your organism and body.

PS! We are not encouraging you to STOP drinking energy drinks! We are just increasing the awarness of the substances!

    Hello

We are the Sussex Coast College Hastings students from United Kingdom, and we decided to come up with an idea to create and increase the awareness of negative effects of different substances, for example energy drinks, alcohol and smoking, in our every day life.

Our aim is not to prohibit the usage of the named substances, but to make people aware of the possible side effects they are using.

Of course, as we all know, there are dozens of pages like this to create awareness of the negative side effects of drugs, cigarettes etc. but if more and more people or groups get involved in trying to make awareness, more and more people will start thinking twice before buying something, that is known to have negative side effects.

We are soon opening our website in order to catch up with the latest news we offer to the people. Everybody is more than welcome to join our group and make people aware of the effects of known products, that will more or less harm you physically or mentally.

Any feedback is more than welcome from all of You. Remember, You can make a difference.

    Help us to help people,
    sincerely Yours,

    Lare, Elle and Kristine
Students of Sussex Coast College Hastings, UK.
